I've own it for a month it helps keep my kids quiet while my wife and I drive. We have 2 other units we purchased for our 2 younger children but those unit are not as durable and the battery does not last as long and not Sony, so their going back.

This player has a long 6 hour life. The screen is better than most other portable players but not as good as some tablet screens. I like the touch strip for controls over push buttons. Sound is not loud but clean. It has a composite video out with special included cable as well as line in. Remote is big considering it is for a tiny player but laid out nicely. I would have liked more video input formats than just AVI and MPG. It wont play most of my MPG files since the resolution is often higher than 750x480. It does not play any Apple formatted video or audio. It reads Dane, Sandisk, Lexar and other flash drives beside Sony micro Vault but it is probably easier to just record AVI files onto a DVD and play them. I can have up to 6 two hour movies on one DVD in AVI (640x360)

THE CONTROLS ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER ON IT - SO YOU NEED TO USE THE REMOTE AND THE REMOTE DOES NOT LAST - MY PLAYER IS GOOD BUT CANNOT FIND A WAY TO CONTACT THEM TO BUY A NEW REMOTE... BIG DOWNSIDE -- MAY HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW PLAYER JUST BECAUSE THE REMOTE WENT OUT!!!

The Sony DVP-FX970 is awesome at this price point. Having researched all other comparable players and personally tried out many; the Sony is better in every category except battery life in some cases (although 6 hours is still very solid). The screen picture quality is fantastic. It's not HD, but its close to the best you can get without bluray. It is the highest resolution you can get at this price. It's a clear, crisp and bright picture. The sound quality is great for a portable player. This player is as sold as any portable DVD player I have held. The Sony has a nice feel and design. The biggest reason I am writing a review is to clear up some things that were vague in other reviews, around the internet, but I feel are important to those who may be a little more tech savvy or even for those who may want to learn a few things.

Pros:
A/V input and output, JPEG Playback, MP3 Playback, Stylish Design, Supports USB Port, Touch Screen
Cons:
Supports only Sony Flash Drives models
Overall the product is good, lasts for about 5 hours, has Swivel screen, rotates about 180 D, touch screen is very easy to use.Good entertainment for kids. Can connect to TV as well.only cons i see is that, if you are looking for USB Flash Drive then be ready to spend 20 to 30 bugs as it supports only below Sony Micro vault Flash drive and Digital Camera (Released after 2008) models:USM-J/B Series, USM L-Series, USM-LX series, DSC-T series, DSW-series, DSC-H Series, DSC-S series and DSLR-A series.
