My first HD display - and loving every pixel of it
from Silicon Valley, CA on 11/25/2012
I've had this display for about 10mos at this point (sorry to hear that it has already been discontinued), and it really has *blown me away* as a total package. It has truly stunning picture quality... I've adjusted it per a HD Blu-ray calibration disc I have: the blacks are as black as they get (IMO), the picture colors are as vibrant and solid as I have ever seen (without contributing any artifacts), the surround mode (not to replace a surround receiver of course) is a nice option to simulate surround sound from 2-ch sources, etc. The looks of the unit are also beyond reproach... the gorilla glass, the frameless design, the simple but functional stand, the wireless support works fine (i.e. even without advertising my SSID as someone had trouble with earlier). Tip: I would also recommend using AES encryption when using the wireless option with this display... the display won't operate at full-802.11n rates if you use TKIP encr (this is the way that the 802.11n protocol was designed, it's actually in the spec). And don't even consider operating this display with anything less than 802.11n if using wireless… have found some issues with loading large videos on youtube when running my older 802.11g w/54mbps transfer rates. This display *does* need a better browser, keyboard input would've also been nice (to at least make internet surfing more usable). The browser could also support more of the standard browser plugins- some site pages aren't fully functional because of this. And the fact that some of the internet apps (like Netflix) aren't consistent between the display and some other Sony devices- like the PS3 and some of their smaller home theater in-a-box systems- is a pain, and doesn't make sense to me. All of this aside- this is just a *stunning* display, and I would purchase it at near twice the price. Fantastic job, Sony (despite the small issues)… can't wait to see what you do for an encore.
Great Picture and Stunning Performace

Fantastic Picture make sure you have the correct cables, the 3D content is amazing. Was going to get the 55" Model but this 46" Model meets the needs plus I saved a few dollars for more stuff from Sony. Great Job Sony!

This tv has a great pic the motion flow 960 is great , I also have the HX800 model with the 240 motion flow and it gives u a great pic... That's why I love the XBR 960 motion flow.. Good job Sony... The built in wifi works well. Easy set up, the PS3 looks great on this XBR. Deep blacks , and great bright colors... I have not found nothing I could say bad about the XBR... Great Job Sony ... This is my 3rd tv from Sony .
Excellent TV ... with a caution
from New York, NY on 1/19/2012
I've no reservations whatsoever as to the quality of the picture of this TV set. As simple as it sounds, it's a joy watching TV programs/movies on this unit. Also, it took me awhile searching stores for a better TV, and I did find it in this set. But ... During the initial setup of the unit, I clicked on the automatic update option (using the TV wireless feature). That was a BIG mistake, because after one night, the set turned off in a middle of a movie ... and that was that. The Sony technician suggested to replace the unit because of some hardware problems. My guess is (also based on other reviews I've read later) that a firmware update damaged the unit. And so, when I got the second (brand new) set, I was CAREFUL to set-off that automatic update option. That's my reason for a four-star grading instead of a five. Anyway, now, a month plus later, life is good ...
GOOD TV BUT TO OVERPRICE. MEDIA SERVER SUCKS.
from Puerto Rico on 12/14/2011
I use to had a Sony XBR 2 and still working flawless. I bought this one because was on sale for $1699 at my local SONY STYLE STORE. was easy to mount very light, the stand is kind of lame, but do the work. NO complain with the picture because is excellent. and the 3D in games like Uncharted 3, Batman AC, Super StarDust IS amazingly SWEET. THE ONLY THING TAHT REALLY ME OFF IS THE MEDIA SERVER DONT RECOGNIZE THE FORMAT OS MY MOVIES (WVA, MKV , AVI) THE APPS ARE LAME REALLY REALLY REALLY LAME. I have a 40" sharp aquos in another room and is a breeze with the media and recognize any media that is on my server. I hope that sony fix this issue with and update AND GET RID OFF THE YAHOO WIDGETS AND USE GOOGLE APPS.
