No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This device is incompatible with mac keyboards because it requires a scrlk key to activate the hotkeys. Further, a usb keyboard, even on a pc, will not work. You must use a ps/2 keyboard to activate the hotkeys (as well as to change the unit's behavior, for example to turn off the beeps). Lastly, if your computer falls asleep, pressing a key on your keyboard won't help; you'd better be able to awaken your computer by pressing the power button.
