R3000 has an unwelcome feature

For many years I owned an Epson R1800 which did everything I needed very well. When it finally died I was recommended the R3000 by the teacher of a class that I took at a local photography store. I bought one, but found out after setting it up that it has a feature which seems really stupid. The Photo Black and the Matt Black inks use the same line - which has to be purged each time you want to switch from one to the other. This is time consuming and wastes a lot of ink (about 1/8 of a cartridge I think). I mostly use a Photo Printer for two kinds of items. One is for large format photographs to be entered in juried exhibitions. The R3000 produces great colors for this and makes the pictures look good. However, I also make greeting cards with glossy photos on the outside and matte text on the inside. This hobby, which I had turned into a small business, has come to an abrupt stop because the ink wastage is ridiculous. As soon as I can afford it I will look for a more useful replacement for the R1800 and pass on the R3000. Potential buyers should be aware of this issue before making the purchase.

The Stylus Photo R3000 Replaced a Epson Photo 1400. Used the 1400 and will use the R3000 for photos only. The R3000 printed a exelant test page. What a deference in color and definition from the 1400. Grate color and shades of gray. Ted.

So far it looks great the box was missing the accessory box but that should be fixed soon, what I like it looks better than my R2400 and it has wireless and Ethernet connections! what I don't like is it only take 13" roll paper unlike the R2400 I have other size paper I can't use now that I used on my old R2400 that has been put to rest I don't know why Epson did not put extra notches in the back for the roll paper holder to take other size paper? this I feel should have been a feature on a upper model!! did I upgrade or downgrade? with this purchase I should have not assumed it had all the features and this is my fault but I am not going to return it. It's to big and heavy to move around make sure you have space to set this up it's bigger than my custom built desktop that everyone says is to big.

I've only had the R3000 a couple of days, but I love it. Setup was pretty easy including the wireless capability. Prints are fantastic. Skin tone is exceptional.
