I have received mySTR-DN 1000 nearly 3 weeks ago.... Happy with its performance, but some easy configurations are missing....Like you cannot really adjust the bass or treble unless the unit is hooked up to a TV...In fact if you need to do any type of adjustments the unit needs to be connected to a TV or monitor..... Once it is connected to a TV , then you'll need to configure the TV output so you'll see the onsite guide....It has no USB connection which for some people is major con, not to me.... Customer service has not much knowledge about the product, in fact, when I was asking about how to connect my Sony mp3 player, I was told only certain models of I pod's are ok to connect, which I proofed the info was completely wrong because I did connect the Sony mp3 player, anyone can connect any brand as easily!

After reading several reviews on receivers under $500 - chose to go with the STR-DN1000 to replace an aging JVC receiver that has seen its day. I have 3 devices to run HDMI to the receiver - Cable HD box, Bluray player and an X360. (We have a Wii too but have that connected directly to the LCD TV.) The picture and sound quality are both above par with the lower priced receivers in the market. I decided to overlook some of the obvious cons - the Wii looks terrible upscaled. (Hence, it being directly connected to the TV.) Also, not a big fan of the speaker wire connection (all the speaker wire is installed at an angle - right around 2 o'clock. The speaker wire connectors feel flimsy.

I was warned and didn't listen. I assumed, that if advertising 110 wpc x 7, that it could deliver. It cannot and now I am stuck with it. Do yourself a favor if you like quality speakers like Polk Audio, but must have a Sony to match your other equipment and drop down the change for an ES model. I wish I had. The stereo performs its functions ok, but it certainly does not deliver 110 wpc to my 7 speakers like the ad claims. I even tried to call to make sure the output would be good enough and got the run around. That alone should have told me I needed to jump up to the ES level of receivers to push quality speakers. That said, it sounds alright, but should be better.
