Sony MDR-XD200 Headphones
from NY on 11/7/2011
The Sony MDR-XD200 Studio Monitor Series Stereo Headphones are an exemplary audio accessory for listening to great music, radio programs, and audio books anywhere portable audio equipment can be enjoyed. This Sony product provides outstanding bass reproduction from its professional grade 40mm dynamic stereo speaker drivers and upscale headphone component feature set. This unit produces spectacular sound quality for any music, movie, or game that you care to select from your personal library. The Sony headphones feature a user selectable movie/music sound mode slide switch on each ear cup to instantly optimize this unit’s low bass note reproduction for major motion pictures or the classical concerto CD that you have lying around. I find the movie/music preset sound mode switches easy to adjust, ergonomically positioned on the lower half of each ear cup, and the equalization settings are acoustically accurate on movie theater soundtracks or rock n’ roll music accordingly. This unit’s movie setting yields a more powerful deep bass effect for a big screen action picture. Conversely, the music preset selection exhibits slightly less low frequency response, and is more suitable for your favorite songs as a result. The split headband is very comfortable, and the ear cups rest in a natural position over my ears for extended private listening sessions. The extra-long 11.5 ft. oxygen-free copper single-sided cord that emerges from the left ear cup comes in handy when I listen to a component stereo system or a TV from across the room. The cord can be neatly folded-up with a cable tie when it is connected to a portable audio player. As usual, the Sony MDR-XD200 headphones offer a 3.5mm gold-plated stereo mini plug connector for seamless compatibility and connectivity with the widest range of portable, MP3, home audio, video game system, or computer equipment possible. The gold-plated stereo mini plug connector enables maximum signal transfer from the source component to your ears. What’s great about this pair of Sony headphones is that a 1/4 stereo unimatch adapter plug is included in the packaging. The gold-plated unimatch adapter enables the user to connect the headphones to a 1/4 inch stereo headphone jack on a component CD player, digital recorder, or tape deck to monitor recorded sound in real time. The Sony MDR-XD200 headphones exhibit versatile vocal range on traditional opera musical scores. In particular, countertenor, tenor, baritone, and bass vocals from male singers are vibrant, clear, detailed, present perfect pitch, and are powerful. Female vocalists are well-defined, naturally pleasant, and superbly warm across the soprano, mezzo-soprano, and contralto vocal ranges. Vocals on classic rock, alternative new wave, country, the oldies, disco, the blues, and love songs feature a marvelous presentation on a deeply vibrant soundstage. Musical instrument reproduction is precise on guitar and drums. Overall, I find that the harmonica, tambourine, violin, oboe, flute, cello, clarinet, mandolin, saxophone, banjo, bass guitar, snare drum, piano, and harp instruments utilized across the musical genres are recreated with a live concert venue atmosphere that is just refreshing to experience on a daily basis. The Sony Studio Monitor Series headphones demonstrate compelling deep bass performance that enables a tune to have a wonderful foundation that all of the other parts of the song can stand on. Whether it’s the latest action movie or a new rock band release, the Sony MDR-XD200 outputs immersive sound quality that is an absolute joy to hear and feel. I am unable to hear other outside distractions in my immediate environment when wearing the Sony headphones. I find this product to be distortion-free in the treble and midrange frequencies. The Sony MDR-XD200 Studio Monitor Series stereo headphones are an excellent choice for the budget-minded consumer and dedicated low bass enthusiast. The Sony headphones sport an over-the-ear design, sturdy construction, and reliable operation. The Sony headphones provide the following high-end portable audio feature set: stereo reproduction, 40mm diameter dome type drivers, high-energy 360 kJ/m3 neodymium magnets, long-stroke diaphragms for extended low frequency response, pressure-relieving ear cushions with plush urethane leather padding, adjustable wide headband for maximum comfort, left/right ear cup placement marks, over-the-head closed dynamic ear conscious design, high quality voice coils, lightweight design, black/silver exterior finish, 1500mW power handling capacity, 10-22,000Hz frequency response, 70 ohms at 1 kHz impedance rating, 102db/mW sensitivity rating, and this unit's weight is 7.77 ounces. The Sony MDR-XD200 headphones include a 90-day parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty. The Sony stereo headphones are ideal for use at home, at work, outdoors, traveling, and listening to the radio. I use the Sony MDR-XD200 headphones primarily to listen to my Sony XPLOD boomboxes for a thrilling portable audio performance. The Sony headphones do not come with a carrying pouch for storage or an in-line volume control. Lastly, the Sony MDR-XD200 Studio Monitor Series headphones permit me to enjoy extended hi-fi playback sessions for cinema releases, club music, and the latest video games on demand. Good Luck. Enjoy.

This is the best headset I've gotten ever! The sound of this headset actually compares to the sound of my turtle beach x41. a 7.1 virtual sound headset is almost beaten but a 20$ headset.. Great work Sony.. have had this around 2 years now and running with no problems at all.

A little bulky, but forgivable
I have had them for only one day, but the sound is awesome! Better than my Beats by Dr.Dre! And I only paid 24.99 for them! They are almost always on sale somewhere. Obviously, I can not rate the reiability since they are less than a day old. Oh, and listening to songs, I heard so much more detail! But I don't hear a difference between the movie and music selector. They sound great on my phone, I-Pod, laptop, home theater, everything! Definitely a must buy.
Lot of headphone for the money

Amazing sound, Comfortable design, Long cord
I was in the market looking for some great sounding headphones and was thinking about monster studios or the bose over ear, my local sears had the sony's on special so I picked up a pair and boy was I blown away by the sound. Its not for ur ipod as the cord is too long for that purpose and you will look like a goof walking down the road with these on, but if you want sound comparable to $150.00+ headphones for less then 1/4th the price go for them and you will love them..
