Reasonably good Value for money

Pros:
Clean sound, heavy on the bass
Cons:
Little top end, rather dull, signal rolls off at approx 7khz
Bottom Line:
No
I purchased these recently to supplement my MDR-V600 headphones. I do a lot of wav editing on my computer and I need a good all 'round headphone that has a wide frequency range to pick up on the all the noise/hiss/clicks that have to be removed from audio files. My 600's are extremely good for this as they have a good frequency range to hear all of this. When I picked up the 700's I expected them to be better than the 600's but I am really let down because these phones seems to have very little top end (the upper frequency range literally rolls off at approx 7kz. not anywhere close to 15khz & nowhere close to Sony's advertized 30khz). If they ARE supposed to go up to somewhere above 15-20khz perhaps someone else can chime in and comment as to such. (I do realize that these are now discontinued) They look nice and fit well but for what I use them for they are a disappointment.
The best headphones in the world

The title is no exaggeration, these are the best headphones money can buy. I've had these headphones for years and they sound exactly the same as when they came out of the package. You don't truly know what your favorite songs sound like until you listen to them with these guys. It's really a shame that they don't sell these new anymore. They really ought to, because they are significantly better than the newest Sony MDRs and studio monitor headphones. Just compare the specs...
decent pair of headphones with some flaws

i Really like these headphones though. They serve my needs effectively. They have a really nice sound in comparison to the cheap panasonic headphones i used to have. though they are kind of heavy and they are a bit awkward and uncomfortable. They can get really loud if you want. They also have good bass that isn't over powerful. I really enjoy listening to music with headphones.

I originally purchased these the MDR-V700's back in the summer of 2000, and during the past 12 years they have been used for a vast range of activities including: Pro Club DJ-ing, home mixing and mastering as well as general day to day personal use. I have to say these are fantastic headphones with well balanced sound and amazing power handing abilities which is one of my main reasons for purchasing them in the first place. You can push the MDR-V700's very hard without suffering any distortion at all which is perfect when using them in loud environments such as a nightclub. In all this time they have never given me a days trouble and for me this represents a truly great investment which has lasted the test of time. I don't think I actually own any other tech that has lasted as long as these headphones with the exception of one of my Casio G-Shocks from about 2003.. Bottom line, these headphones will last if looked after. I hope this helps :) JT
