Product Reviews for Sony SRS-DB500 Speaker System
from Stockton, CA on 4/5/2012
I have always wanted a good set of speakers to listen to my music, connect to my tv, etc. and I can say these are what I have been looking for all these years. To start with, Sony wasn't kidding with the bonerattling bass statement, when you put the bass to the max you don't just hear it, you feel it! If you get near it like you're suppose to, you'll drown in all that bass, "You" not the sound, even with that massive amount of bass the mid and high section still sound great, and if you plug in a pair of XB headphones, your ears will be left ringing when you take them off! But what I really like about this speaker system is that is an all arounder. Basically if you know your way with cables and connetions you can use these speakers for prettey much anything, MP3, TV, Gaming Consoles etc. and because there not super heavy, you can move them around and hooking them up couldn't be simpler, and I would like to thank Sony for putting the controls on the sub, and not the satellite speakers, and for including a controller, at first I thought it was a joke since you had to point at the speakers and be close them, makng it pointless since you can reach down and adjust the setting, but when I tried changing the settings when its dark, it makes perfect sense as in to why its there, since you can't see the bass, or treble button. So overall I'm very happy with this speaker set, it's big, and loud. and recommend it to anyone but... IF YOU ARE PLANING ON BUYING THIS... please take these things into consideration 1. Make sure you have a lot of space, the picture dosen't do much to show how big the sub is, it's bigger then a desktop, I'm not kiding side to side, the sub is wider and taller then the desktop, its just not as long and #thankfully# not as heavy 2, When you first use this speaker system for the first time the sound will be unbalanced, this is normal because the speakers haven't adjusted yet, so after a good 20-50 hours of use the speakers will sound more balanced and musicial, for example when you listen to a Rock song, like Van Halen's "Ain't Talkn' 'Bout Love" the drum and bass will drown out the guitar and vocals, but as the more you use it the more balance out it will get. 3. Do not turn the bass to max when you're first using it, or you'll run the risk of blowing out the sub. 4. Like the bass do not turn the volume all the way up, or you'll run the risk of blowing out the speaker set. 5. If your PC dose not have a line in, you won't get the full sound these speakers are able to produce. Good Luck ^-^

I recently purchased these speakers to go with my recent purchase of a custom ordered Sony L series all-in-one computer. What I failed to recognize, is that unless you have an "audio-in" jack, you can only connect these through your head phone jack. I received the speakers prior to my computer, and tried them on my Sony Bravia XBR5 television and they were absolutely amazing. When I received the computer and hooked the speakers up, I was puzzled that the only place I could connect these was the headphone jack. The sound was not nearly as good, because of the headphone jack connection. Almost no bass, and the volume levels were significantly reduced. After trying to see what else could be done to fix my problem, I ended up returning the speakers, and bought the Bose Companion 5 speaker system which connects through the USB port. The Bose sound great. The big negative is that they are double the price. However, they do look better, are smaller in size, and have comparable 300 watt sound. Long story short, if you are looking for an all-in-one computer and need powerful speakers, don't get these, because you will never get to experience the great sound that they are capable of.

Monster Bass, Nice design, Very Loud
Speakers are boxy and not as attractive as the subwoofer
So I researched tons of speaker options for my 27" iMac and I couldn't find one set that could match the power specs of the Sony SRS-DB500. I'm a huge Sony guy when it comes to my living room, but always went with Logitech speakers for my home office. With the purchase of my gorgeous 27" iMac, I wanted BIG sound to go with my big display. Well, I can say this 2.1 system is exactly what I was looking for. The bass from the sub and satellites is just flat out nuts! I live in an apartment complex and am scared to turn the unit up any more than half way because I can feel the floor and walls shaking around me! My iTunes library sounds great, but I also use my iMac as an HDTV (thanks to Elgato's EyeTV HD) and these speakers are awesome for movies and sports as well. Watching Boston Celtics games is cool because you can feel the bass every time the ball hits the parquet floor at the Garden (or should I say the Gahhhden). My only complaint would be that the speakers are bit thicker and boxier than I'd prefer, but I suppose that's the trade off for power and the aesthetics are more than made up for in the cool looking subwoofer with glowing LED light (nice touch). Don't spend over $100 on a weak system when you can spend a little bit more on these and get MUCH more BANG for your buck!
Superb Clarity and Bass !

strong Bass. No distortion at max volume., Tight
These speakers are among the best 2.1 speakers available today ! The bass is just awesome, no doubt, at half volume it literally shakes the doors and other things. Mids are crystal clear as these are "Sony" speakers. Treble might sound harsh at very high volume but that's not much of a problem. These sound best while playing movies and games. They might look ugly in the picture but in reality it looks very stylish and cool. Overall, these babies rock ! Highly Recommended !
