Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
This unit does have text to speech, have to use a computer voice. - I am very satisfied with this unit. I would definitely buy another Tom Tom gps unit.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I misread the features - "voice" does not mean text to speech, which tells you street names. Not so important when you know where you are. But when you don't - like New York City, for example, "left in 200 yards" doesn't do it.
