Great Little Scanner

This little scanner does just what I need it to do for scanning the occasional document. Although I use it only occasionally, I have not had any problems with it. The SnapScan Manager software is effective and intuitive. The ability to save as JPF, PDF, or even text-searchable PDF files is very cool. I deliberately decided to keep things simple and not install the extra bundled software. Speaking of software, since I have a Mac, it took some effort and head-scratching to retrieve the necessary software from the Fijitsu website. However, once it's all downloaded and installed, it's a snap to use. The main thing this scanner lacks (and which should be included) is a hard case, but as it usually stays at home in my apartment, I just keep it in the original cardboard box to protect it from bumps and dust. Also, it would be nice if you could feed material straight through without bending it -- material is fed in horizontally and comes out vertically. (Although I have not tried scanning photos, I suspect it could end up overly bending a photo and causing creases.) Anyway, if you don't need to scan anything wider or thicker than a standard sheet of paper, and if you do not need double-sided scanning, this is a great way to go for a space-challenged or mobile situation. All in all I am very happy with this scanner. It is quick, efficient, and compact, and so far has been 100% dependable and glitch-free.

Nice portable scanner, but no TWAIN driver

Bought the S1100 scanner to quickly scan receipts and other documents into my laptop. Decent color for a small scanner and the straight path makes scanning thick media a snap. Scanner is easy to use and I would have rated it higher if it did duplex scanning in 1 pass. Also would like the Snapscan to sense the end of the scanned media so it can handle long documents without having to do the extra step of pressing the scan button till it flashes. My biggest complaint is there is no Twain driver. If you're not scanning into one of the applications on the list the media must be scanned as a JPEG or PDF, then imported into applications like Quicken or Google docs, or Punch!. The extra step gets tiring when you're doing 20 to 30 receipts a day.

Worked great right out of the box. Software was easy to install and is easy to use to organize your scans. The only problem I have is that the load area could have a little bit better guide to get the page in straight the first time.

I am extremely pleased with my Scansnap! First was how simple it was to attach to my computer and setup. Very light weight and small enough to store in my purse or brief case. I had many receipts that were torn and wrinkled..so surprised my receipts went through ScanSnap smoothly. Also, staples attached to do a piece of paper went through easily as well!! Great choice!

The S1100 is simple to setup, simple to use, and easy to carry with a highly functional case. The scanner is fast and the bundled software is excellent. It's easy to deal with multiple pages, single or double sided, color or black and white. Software auto-detects page size, color, scan side, and it can save to JPEG or searchable PDF. Altogether, a highly portable, affordable and extremely functional scanner that I would recommend to anyone.

An unexpected capability!

You might think of this small device as being intimidated by scanning some of yesterdays photo technology, but the ScanSnap S1100 stood up to the test. Some older Polaroid instant film came with a stiff backing material to attach to help increase it's life expectancy. My daughter asked, "Dad, this one is real thick, should I try scanning it?" I said "give it a try and we'll see what happens." The feed rollers took the old photo, smoothly glided the picture through and the image was just as good as normal thickness scans. We were thoroughly impressed!

I use this scanner at home, not as a mobile device. It works great and is easy to use. It can do several pages as 1 document which I like. I use it for my personal documents as well as for the few tax clients I do at home. The software that comes with is easy to use.

I like the software that comes with the S1100. It has features that other competeter models do not have, I have heard of dark background issues that companies don't like to see on expense sheets. I am able to make my back ground white for all reciepts. I even have the option of all black and white scanning which is the prefered format or change when needed to color. I suggest to all who ask " get a scan snap you will love it!!!!
