I was impressed from day one. Small, fast, light, plenty of battery life, these are the many attributes that make this a great machine. I have taken it everywhere and it has always preformed well. Having more then one USB port has allowed me to hook up high speed drives and dvds. This is another great product by Toshiba. This is my fourth laptop because Toshiba has delivered on its promises. Things I would change: The touch pad often gets in the way of typing. Occasionally, my long thumbs will brush the pad and send my typing to the other side of the page. This gets pretty annoying when you have to get it done. putting it slightly below surface may solve this. The pad would also be great if it were angled, even if it made it smaller. I just don't bend like I used too.

Can't grumble about the harddisk size but a few snags fairly son after obtaining my netbook in june 2011... Pretty soon - within the first month - the webcam stopped working - just while i was on holiday, so no skype calls from the campsite, text only! Takes forever to boot up while it does all its background checks and (windows 7) updates - with it's poor performance running several updates at one time, can spend all day just gettng to 'all sysgtems go''. It can't cope with more than 1 process without becoming really slow! Also the cursor jumps sometimes so typing continues through text already typed meaning you have to stop and type again! Requires pretty high maintenanceof systems - unless leaving eg driver reviver in charge - but careful, driver reviver changes specs, ie browser or preferred programs, loses data, slows down the boot up and takes ages, I don't like it! Serious loss of data as it cleverly attepts to integrate eg photo albums from mobile phones which do not as yet have different filenames, just 'ing201.jpg' or some such - so that different pictures can have the same filename - albeit in different folders - and therefore get deleted. I have lost a great dfeal of data - irreplaceable - before twigging i had to put them in different directories and even then they disappear, unles renamed. size of screen is a nuisance for fluid reading as even with the magnifying tool you can either see the whole page and scroll down with a too-small type or else make it bigger but keep having to move the screen from side to side, interrupting flow of reading a lineat a glance. tablet / keyboard is sometimes insufficiently responsive to light pressure so that the space bar doesn't function and words end up being stuck together! main thing is with such a small RAM it takes ages to go through all updates etc at bootup and to virus scan while loading software. not so good at multitasking as the Qosmio which is bigger faster and even though older more efficient! Plus side - size is handy to travel with and carry around, once all systems loaded it works well, and is very discreet. nice big disk but data loss still an issue!

Comments about Toshiba MIni NB505-N508BN Netbook:
Never thought I would ever need a portable comp. Anyway, I got this notebook mainly to watch Netflix streaming movies, now use it for a lot more: email, web, etc. Battery life is great. Nice display and cool and useful Toshiba apps. Can't beat the price.

The only complaint I have is Norton Anti-Virus, I don't like this program and it will not let me uninstall. I use Microsoft Security Essentials on both my computers at home

Consumer Reports likes it
By Lieutenant Kije

Comments about Toshiba MIni NB505-N508BN Netbook:
I bought this netbook because Consumer Reports recommended it. I went to a store and tried a few others and could see that it in fact does compare favorably in simple things like the keyboard and mousepad. I'm mostly satisfied but it can be really slow, especially on sophisticated web pages. On several occasions I had to power off the netbook when it froze up. I suspect it really needs more than one gig of memory.
