Overall an excellent printer for the money. This printer was purchased to replace an older HP Laserjet 4100 and I am very happy thus far.

Pros for the printer are the smaller footprint, ease of setup, speed of printing, and relative ease of use. I particularly like the gigabit ethernet that comes with this printer, which leverages our recent gigabit network upgrades.

One con for this printer are the cheaper feel of the plastics used relative to our older HP Laserjet...but then again we paid over $1,000 for the older printer. It's not bad enough to avoid buying this printer, but noticeable enough to comment on this point. Actually in comparison to other printers on the market today, this printer is well-built.

One feature of note I found useful is the USB port allowing me to print even if the network is down.

One feature my co-workers and I found odd is the optional "Quiet Mode". Straight out-of-the box setup of the printer is easy, but printing was VERY noisy. I did notice a Quiet Mode in the LCD panel menus, which by default is turned off. Once I turned on the Quite Mode, the printing noise was quite reduced. I would think that by default, HP would manufacture the printer to be quiet and not even have to give that as an option.
I have seen reviews on the internet by others who bought this model and complained of the noise. I would guess this may be the reason.

In summary, this is a excellent printer and an very nice replacement for our older Laserjet 4100. I would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a fast printer with crisp quality prints at a reasonable price.

Firmware upgrade bricked printer

Be very careful when updating the printer firmware. Not sure what I did wrong but after completing a FW upgrade the printer will not boot and comes up with 49.4c01 error. After the 3 calls to up, I was told formatter board needed to be replaced to off to repair it went.
