With the introduction of the Epson Stylus Pro 3880, the bar has once again been raised and the realm of what's possible expanded. Engineered for the most discriminating professionals, it comes with a variety of technological breakthroughs that will make it the benchmark by which all other 17-inch printers are measured. In fact, there's so much innovation in this feature-rich printer, you might expect a much larger footprint, but the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 is remarkably compact, equal in size to many 13-inch printers.

With the Epson Stylus Pro 3880, uncompromising quality is within reach. Engineered for the discriminating professional, this compact, 17" wide printer includes Epson UltraChrome® K3 with Vivid Magenta Ink Technology, world-renowned for professional printing applications. This, combined with an advanced MicroPiezo AMC™ print head, enables the Pro 3880 to produce gallery-quality color and black-and-white output up to 17" x 22". The printer's industry-acclaimed ink set delivers a phenomenal color gamut with breathtaking blues and violets. All-new AccuPhoto™ HD2 technology provides smoother color transitions and better highlight and shadow detail for prints with a true photographic look. Exceptional print quality and professional media support - the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 makes it all possible.

Epson UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta Ink Technology is a professional, 8-color ink set with advanced magenta pigments that provide more dramatic blues and violets for an impressive color gamut. Its three-level black technology delivers richer blacks, outstanding tonal range and an unprecedented gray balance, all of which ensure outstanding black-and-white prints. Built on Epson's heritage of professional ink technology, this pigment ink set offers instant color stability. Colors stay consistent, whether viewed right out of the printer or decades later. With Epson UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta, you get print quality and longevity that satisfies the most demanding professional.

The Epson Stylus Pro 3880 optimizes your working space. This compact, professional-level printer generates exhibition quality prints, worthy of gallery display, up to 17" x 22" - an innovation made possible by Epson's expertise in microminiaturization and professional printing technology.

AccuPhoto HD2 technology was created from a collaboration between Epson and the Rochester Institute of Technology's Munsell Color Science Laboratory and combines a complex mathematical architecture and advanced screening technology to provide outstanding image quality. AccuPhoto HD2 is specifically engineered to ensure precision placement of each individual ink droplet, resulting in smooth, grain-free images. Choosing from an extraordinary number of possible ink combinations for each color, this technology optimizes ink usage to maximize the color gamut and provide smooth color transitions and gradations. Reduction of the metameric index makes it possible to achieve consistent color under different lighting conditions. And, it ensures truly photographic prints, even in high-speed or lower resolution print modes.

Our advanced MicroPiezo print head with AMC (Advanced Meniscus Control) is at the core of Epson's advanced ink jet technology, enabling the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 to deliver incredible detail. This permanent, high-performance print head creates variable-sized droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters and places them with remarkable accuracy and precision. This professional print head also incorporates an ink-repelling coating which decreases maintenance and increases reliability.

Part of an advanced workflow, the Advanced Black-and-White Photo Mode is your key to intuitive and consistent control, for stunning neutral or toned black-and-white prints. Choose from one of four present menus - neutral, warm, cool or sepia. Or, fine tune your image further with custom slider bars and the color tone wheel that gives you precise control.

The Epson Stylus Pro 3880 was designed without compromise so your visions could be printed without compromise. With its compact size, it represents the next step in professional desktop printing, and is a must have for the serious professional.

I knew this was a good printer before I purchased it, I didn't just how good it was until I made a dozen prints. Of those twelve prints, ten were BW, mainly on Velvet Fine Art paper (8x10's) and two on Luster. I also printed a couple color images and was just blown away by the detail and gradation of the tones in the BWs as well as the color tonality. The printer came very well packaged. Many many small pieces of tape held everything together. A good paper manual and the quick start guide made for an easy installation. The driver software loaded without any problems as did the paper ICC profiles. Everything worked right out of the box. Prior to making a print I performed a monitor calibration. Aside from some minor differences in dark tones, the printed image did a great job matching the screen image. One minor annoyance, the rear manual paper feed is a bit finicky when it comes to loading paper, sometimes taking two or three times before it is fed correctly. Not enough of a problem to decrease my star rating. Maybe things may change with time, but my experience right out of the box is nothing but positive and I would highly recommend this printer. The price is high, but keep in mind that you get fully charged 80mL cartridges with the printer. This is arguably the best printer currently on the market. Can't wait to print some 17x22s.

This is an excellent printer when it prints. Unfortunately, even after reinstalling the latest printer driver on my Mac pro tower running PS 5.5 under Snow Leopard, it keeps hanging up. I had the 3800 before this, and loved it. As I said, when it is working, it produces beautiful rich prints. I wish the printer driver worked better. I often need to produce proofs under tight deadlines, and it is a pain when the printer refuses to print.

Outstanding Printer

By LFG-emc

from Voorhees, NJ

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large Format Printer:

This is a great, versatile workhorse of a printer. I've used it for everything from fine art print editions to commercial production comps and posters. It's consistent, reliable, and precise in output. The color is beautiful and lush. Definitely a good buy for an individual artist or small business wanting to have more options and reliable, professional prints. The only drawback is the printer won't print anything if one of the cartridges is out of ink, but that's pretty standard for inkjet printers.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large Format Printer:

The 3880 has taken the place of my excellent 3800. The 3880 shows more detail in the final print. I compared the exact print from the 3800 to the 3880 and the first thing I noticed was more detail in the faces with the 3880 and saturation showed up more with the 3880. The faces I am referring to were in a large group photo of 45 people with only a standard flash as the light source. The difference was recognizable at once.

Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Inkjet Printer

By Lucky

from San Luis Obispo, CA

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large Format Printer:

This is a great printer. I've already made some beautiful prints. However, a big gripe I have is that though easy to set up, it does not come with a shielded AB USB cable. It didn't work with the regular unshielded cable I drove 20 miles to purchase and just by chance I took one off of an Epson scanner I have. (the instructions did say to use a shielded cable, the local office supply only carried the regular cables) Voila, there finally was communication with the computer. Such a necessary item should be included with the purchase. After all, I included one with the used 3800 I sold to a friend. It doesn't work without them.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large Format Printer:

This product was recommended to me. Am greatly impressed with the quality of prints that it can create! It would have taken hours of darkroom work to match the prints the Epson 3880 is capable of. Great printer!

Stylus Pro 3880

By SkinnyWilbo

from Hendersonville, NC

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large Format Printer:

After a short learning period, I have gotten great results from my new 3880. It's easy to use, the colors are very, rich. The details are sharp. I've been especially pleased with larger prints, 13x19 & 17x22. I wish the cartridges were more reasonably priced.....
