I have had the DN2010 for about 2 months. I took time to carefully read the manual and setup the receiver & I have been pleased with it's performance. So much so that I am compelled to write this review. A prior review pointed out three issues with this unit, I have not noticed these issues. 1. Going into mute unexpectedly - did not encounter, however if you switch from the Recever Speakers to a Sony TV speakers (TV option) the Reciever will mute it's speakers (per design I believe) 2. Ethernet Switch runs hot - If enabled the Ethernet switch does cause the unit to stay warm (not excessive) However you can disable the Ethernet switch when the Reciever is in Standby. 3. Issues with Bravia Sync, this appears to be working fine for me. The system does require steps to setup / initialize Bravia Sync between components. One of the features that I find very useful is the iPod App - free app download provides a very easy way to control the unit via an iPod / iPad... (The unit must be connected to the Internet for this functionality)

I bought this receiver to replace my STR-DA5300ES receiver to get better Bravia Sync support and have more HDMI inputs. Unfortunately I found major problems with the firmware that is forcing me to return it. The receiver intermittently goes into mute without reason. The Bravia Sync which is one of the main reasons I bought the receiver has bugs in synchronization and discovery with other Sony products that are supposed to support this feature. In addition, the receiver runs very hot in stand-by presumably because the 4 port Ethernet switch is on all the time. To be fair, this receiver has a nice design and if the problems are fixed, it is a good value for money. However, Sony is notorious for being slow to bring out updates. I'll be checking the reviews in a few months to see if some of these issues have been fixed.

    shoulda learned the first time

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

I have no subwoofer output, 7 months into ownership. I first bought a 1010, and the transformer blew on it, about the same time frame, but different whereas the 1010 was just cutting out on working entirely, this one, just no sub out. After Sony finally took it back, the 1010, I was reluctant, and for good reason to buy another Sony receiver. I did, and am awaiting to return it to get fixed. I really do not want it anymore and will be afraid to even use it when I get it back, as I am sure its days will be numbered yet again. I love Sony for their CRT TV's and their computers, but absolutely, this is the last Sony receiver I will ever buy. I hope Sony will just keep it and send me a refund, so I can buy a different name brand stereo. I am surrounded throughout my house by old stereos that work. Unfortunately, the last two new ones from Sony both broke. Dont do it, no matter how cheap they become.

    Nice System, but not perfect.

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

I brought this for the networking features and was pleasantly surprised. The built-in network hub is a handy feature (1 line to my router and 3 to other devices (BD, WDTV, etc.). The DLNA Media Streaming function does not work as fast as I had hoped, but it does work (to a point). The Server/Player only goes up to 20,000 songs, which kind of stinks. You can search through your library and play your choice, unless it goes above that 20,000 limit. Then it will default to the first song in your library. Works seamlessly with WMP12 and also works with MediaMonkey v.4. iTunes isn't my flavor, so haven't tested there. If a firmware update can fix the song limit, (being a former DJ, I currently have just over 70k converted from hundreds of CDs'), and possibly the little of lag when searching, this would be great. It is still a good sounding system that replaced my old A/V unit with many more options for me to customize. I'm not ecstatic, but I am a little more than happy with it...

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

The sound and the performance is good. The main problem is about the iphone app and the new firmware update. Both only work in the US version of the machine. I live in Europe (as many owners of the A/V) and the iphone app is not update it since May 2010!! the the firmware is only updated first time before 1 month but also no good outside US. Can Sony deal with it, please?

friends unit convinced me to buy the STR-DN2010

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

well...I have a friend who purchased this receiver and loves it to death. They invited me over as I am a Sony enthusiast. I have many Sony products but never considered a Sony Stereo or AMP because they just are not known for AUdio equipment period. If you bought this amp thinking it was going to compare to a 2500 Harmon Kardon or Denon or any of the Hi Fidelity systems you are just stupid ! Sony makes alot of great gadgets which I absolutely love and have over-priced TVs (sorry) but incredible design which is critical and great quality. I only owned Sony unless I could not find what I was after and had to look elsewhere. That does not happen often and I was getting ready to go buy a very expensive Amp and Pre Amp for 5000 USD when my friend had me over to see and hear this unit with some high end speakers (not SONY) everything else was Sony of course ! Playstation 3 Bluray system cameras and DVD players lots of audio/video equpiment plugged into unit and worked fine and sounded amazing. Now...the thing is this....this unit is very very sleek and highly functional so that everyone of his needs was met and like me he wanted to be able to have that one unit (this one) that every other electronic device ran through so that they were all easily connected behind the unit and thus leaving a very very clean Home Theater system uncluttered to the eye as you walk into the room. There is no mess of cables and wires running all over the place because its all connected thru HDMI cables which makes for a clean connection and he pre-wired his mini HOME Theater while he was designing his home....so although I will have to use the available streaming wireless adapter and speakers....which BTW are fraking awesome if you live in an old Victorian House or Condo in San Francisco that you can't knock out the walls to install your surround sound speakers !!!

        STRDN-2010 Receiver and KDL55NX810 3D TV

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

Purchased Sony KDL55NX810 3D TV, Sony BDPS570 BluRay player, Sony STRDN-2010 receiver. The 3D TV performance with a 3D BluRay movie is amazing. The engineering that went into these components is impressive. The 3D images jump off of the screen. The STRDN-2010 receiver is connected to 5.1 Klipsch RB51IIB, RC52IIB, RS42IIB, RW10D speakers, and the sound that accompanies the 3D movie is equally impressive. The STRDN-2010 receiver connects via WI-FI to the telephone router for access to the internet. All components are black and sit on a Bush VS74950-03 black stand. Have used the system for more than a month and would recommend it to anyone looking for a well designed 3D TV system. Great performance. Sony's BD 3D TV system may be market altering technology; 2D movies will never look the same again.

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

I've owned a lot of SONY products over the years and many ES products. The STR-DN2010 is a very poorly designed product for the following reasons:
A.) Meant as DNLA product to stream video content it does not handle FLASH, DIVX, AVI, MPG and many others. All it steams is MPEG and sometimes WMV. This was very short sighted as it's useless to most collections and user created content.

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

Receiver worked as described for 1 day. Then it simply shut down and does not restart since. Sony wants me to send it for a lenghty repair, but I will probably simply return it. One does not pay 800$ on a product and then starts repairing it after a few days... Avoid this product at all cost !

Comments about Sony STR-DN2010 A/V Receiver:

To rlopez - the points you make are quite ridiculous.
                  1. Sure, Android sales have overtaken iPhone sales lately but the vast majority of smartphones out there are still iPhones. How is it a stupid move on Sony's part to make an iPhone app for the most popular phone there is? I'm sure an Android app is on the way anyway so I wouldn't worry too much.
                  2. Sony doesn't make washers and driers so that comment was irrelevant.
                  3. This review is about the receiver...something that Samsung is terrible at. If you want to continue purchasing Samsung products go right ahead. You will be terribly disappointed in their audio quality.
