Q: Can you explain this multi zone feature. So if you have 7.1 speakers hooked up in your main room you can have another whole set of speakers in another room which it can control. You would need a seperate amp though right? Also it is has a dolby digital decoder? Asked on 5/19/2009 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: AVR-687 has a multizone feature that allows you to extend another set of speakers in other locations. The Home Theater receiver is being called on to do more: simple connection to A&V sources, accessing satellite & Internet radio, connecting iPods, and provide access to A&V sources in more than 1 location. AVR-687 contains Preamp outputs but you need another amp for other rooms. Consider these in using multizone. You need another remote for the 2nd location. Unless your Receiver comes with a secondary Remote Control to use in other zones, you have to go to the main room receiver to switch sources to supply the other zones. If a secondary remote control is supplied for other zone use, you still have to install remote control extenders in the other zones to use the remote to control the source you want to access from the main receiver. Also, you need speaker wires or A/V cables running from the main receiver to other zones. Yes, AVR-687 has Dolby Digital Surround EX Decoding. Answered on 5/22/2009 by Eric from East Philly
