Great Improvement Over the 6300 Unit

I use this scanner, without the feeder, for personal and business purposes: mainly, for scanning photos, drawings and contracts. It is easy to use and fast compared to the 6300 version that preceeded it. The slide and negative scanning features are O.K. if you have a limited number of things to scan. Otherwise, it is too slow and cumbersome. The software that came with mine did not work and I was forced to go online to HP to download new drivers. Within a week, they upgraded the drivers and the unit stopped working. It took a while to discover that I needed to download new drivers to restore function: an annoying feature of the HP Total Care auto upgrade feature.

I have faced lots of issues since I purchased this scanner. I purchased two of them. The Transparency Adapter was wrecked on both and had to be swapped. It also caused some trouble communicating with my PC. It will be running along flawlessly, and subsequently I given the next scanning command and it reports: "Scanner not found." It doesn't expand negatives. Slides spit out hazily and unreadable. Totally Worthless!

The results obtained with this machine are not really very good and consistent. I have owned a number of scanners and this is not the best by far. HP has poor customer service. No matter what I do, the pictures sometimes come out with dust, scratches and it would take me along time to clean up. HP has developed programming which is awkward, confusing and unstable. My advice to the manufacturer: send it back to square one. After I received some replacement parts, everything worked a little better, but still not great.
