The clock works as advertised. I was interested in the clock as it was the first alarm clock that I had come across that diverted from the usual/old lcd/led digit display technology. I had leaned toward the "Kensington Rise&Shine" app for iphone/ipodtouch, but figured a product designed specifically as an alarm clock would be the way to go. Anyway - the clock is great during the daytime the background photo slideshows are a nice touch (note: using the internal memory for slideshows will include the Sony demo pics -- use external media for slideshows if you only want your content to be displayed) . The "night mode" can only be entered by manually cycling through the brightness settings -- it would be very nice if Sony would provide a method for the end user to set a time schedule for the clock to enter/exit 'nightmode'. That being said when the clock is in nightmode the display is rather dark...(less room illumination than any clock I've previously used)...it would also be nice if Sony allowed the user to determine the brightness/contrast level of 'nightmode' to suit individual tastes (note: I have this clock in my bedroom and prefer to have a dark room and hence utilize nightmode, the clock keeps the room dark, but sometimes the time is a little hard to see...some folks may not have an issue with the clock being 'bright' 24 hours a day). Anyway - perhaps Sony will provide a 'USB Software Update" for this clock and rectify the small issues mentioned above. I would buy this clock again...and am looking forward to when Sony releases an OLED version of this type of clock :) .

I have several major problems with this device. 1) It does not have shuffle. Sony's CD players back in the 1990s had shuffle (I owned one!). Every iPod since what, 2005 or earlier, has shuffle. But this device does not. It cannot randomly play songs from your USB or SD storage medium (or presumably, from onboard memory). 2) Lack of a shuffle function causes varying degrees of boredom with regard to music selections. For example, playing from a USB or SD device yields your files in filesystem order - not horrible, but monotonous. On the other hand, when selecting one of these devices for music to use for your alarm, you have to pick a SINGLE FILE... so you wake up to the same song every morning. Not really what I would hope for. 3) The interface is too complex and insufficiently explained. While you can turn off the built-in images (others here have complained you can't), it is, for example, fairly confusing as how you start a photo slide show from a USB or SD device. It can be done, it's just... more difficult than it needed to be. 4) Finally, the built-in memory is mostly useless. To use it one must select files on other memory devices (like USB or SD, etc) one at a time. But these days people have hundreds if not thousands of mp3s and photos... so not MINIMALLY having a "select all" feature for copying is ridiculous. I for one will not take the time to select each one of my 450 favorite mp3s for transfer to the device; I doubt many others will either. [Conclusion] It is my fondest hope that, since this is a software device (i.e. updateable firmware), Sony will either correct some of these problems, or will release their firmware specs to the OSS community, who surely could improve the device considerably. But I am not interested in waiting for a device that works great, I would like one now... so I will be returning this product to the store. Better luck next time, Sony.

    Good Dock and more

    Cons

    • can only upgrade through SD card
    • No wireless for DLNA

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

Great device, does more than I thought. I got it on sale at Amazon for under $90 and decided try it around x-mas. Got he 1.06 upgrade soon after. Everything works great with 1.06. IPod touch 2nd and 3rd gens play with no problems. Best of all the USB port in the back can charge! So, I can charge 2 IPods at once. Then I got an HTC smartphone, and the USB port in the back can charge, play music from, and download music and pictures from it. Haven't tried video yet. I have had no problems with the alarm, and it seems more responsive with firmware 1.06. I wish it accepted upgrades from a USB stick. I may buy another if they go on a deep sale price again.
I just wish it had wireless for DLNA connections. they put that in the Dash though. It does what it says, so no points off.

Love this thing. With a 4 gig sd card I can put on average 5 full movies on it. It is actually pleasureable to watch movies on, I'd rather watch movies on my alarm clock than my laptop. Costco has them for $100.00!!! Well worth every dime.

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

It's incomprehensible that Sony doesn't market this state of the art machine as an alarm clock! I mean it is just perfect. I just hope they get better marketing for this product. The design is just exactly what todays finest alarm clock should be. If Sony markets this correctly they will soon have many copy cats. Sony needs to get this product a good sales pitch. It's even hard to find in Best Buy. It's hard to find in a google search for alarm clocks. For some reason this dream machine elite is hiding from the people who would just love it! I'm so glad I kept looking, it took me a while to find the best alarm clock I may ever have. It's the cats Meow. My wife wants another one for the kitchen too. Thank you Sony for another product that makes me a satisfied customer again!

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

This is a great concept and I was initially very pleased with the product. however it initially randomly started shutting down requiring the power to be turned off / on to restart - now after 3 months it is completely dead Suggest if you do buy - keep the sales receipt (in my instance I havent and Sony NZ will not support the products repair :-(

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

Overall great alarm clock. Really like the week/weekend alarm option and the night mode disables the wallpaper so it is dark and doesn't light up the room. Has NOT frozen up on me like others say, so I think Sony fixed the issue. I would really like to see a firmware update that adds the option to random play internal music for the alarm so I don't have to hear the same thing every morning (currently you have to specify the MP3 you want the alarm to play).

Not Compatible with iPod Touch 4th Gen

            By JohninBoston

            from Boston, MA

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

I bought this clock for my wife for xmas to replace an old ipod "compatible" clock that she hated. I liked all the extra features even though I didnt think she would use half. The biggest thing I wanted though was the clock to be compatible with her new ipod Touch 4th gen. Unfortunately the connector for the dock does not fit correctly and it would never charge and the clock would not recognize that the ipod was docked. Even after the version 1.6 update. Only owned for 3 days so I cannot comment on the fact the alarm was iffy, but the dock was not compatible so it didnt matter. For the money spent, it should be compatible with the latest and greatest, thats why I give the Design low marks, but uped a star because I liked the rest of the clock. Apple goes down an notch for me as well.

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

As others have said here, this "Dream Machine" is extremely buggy and prone to hanging. You will have to turn it off and back on again at the mains to get it going. I can't tell you how many times I have been let for work now because of it. I have been running on 1.05 firmware for weeks now with no improvement. For something so expensive, I am extremely disappointed. It's a glorified iPhone charger (sometimes). How about a refund Sony?

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

It was love at first sight when I saw this clock-radio, even at $150.00. I was not disappointed in its features, generally, as it worked as advertised. I did experience the occasional freeze-up, but am counting on the update to help. The update also allowed me to stop the default pictures from displaying. The sound is adequate for a clock radio, and the picture display looks great (depending on the resolution of what is being displayed. In all other respects, the ICF-CL75iP performs as I would expect, and I am still pleased with my purchase. It has been running fine for several months. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a good clock radio and enjoys the geeky aspect of being able to listen to and watch media on your alarm clock.

              Average at best.

              By TatClarkson

              from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Sony ICF-CL75iP Digital Frame for iPod:

It has a great physical design, buttons feel good, display is crisp, has battery backed time, but that's about it. Here are my issues/wishes: - Does not seem to support the latest 4G iPod Touch at all (only charges it) - Display brightness, while adjustable, does not dim automatically at a specified time at night. In the morning, it goes full bright with the alarm (cannot be configured) - With a great display, you'd think SONY would've added RDS information with the radio - nope. RDS decoder chip would've added to cost. - Radio controlled time sync would be nice - this radio doesn't have it. - Lastly, even with the LATEST 1.05 firmware, the radio locks up at times and FAILS TO ACTIVATE THE ALARM. I've reset everything on the unit, and even removed the memory card in it. This happens once every month or so. A reboot solves it, so I tend to reboot the radio every weekend.
