I immediately fell in love with this player as soon as I hooked it up, it's lightning fast on the Blu-Ray side and very easy to set up. I run this via HDMI to my 63" Plasma and via Optical to my THX A/C Receiver; both the video and sound are incredible. The player stays up to date very easily and there always seems to be some new app that you can stream video or audio from. I originally had the wireless connected to a G-band wireless router, I found that you could not stream HD very well if at all so I hardwired it to my network and HD streaming became instantaneous. I recently purchased a Netgear WNDR37AV with 5GHZ N-Band and there is no difference from being on the wired network. If you are experiencing latency or stop-n-go video you should upgrade to N-band or hardwire your unit. I also love the I-Phone remote, mostly because it makes my content searches ultra-fast, I was getting a bit tired of using the remote (I use a Harmony but searching is the same between remotes). The I-Phone remote allows you to type your search as quickly as you normally type/text on your phone, SWEET!!! I'm actually buying another one of these for my upstairs bedroom this week for my wife. Just note that you DO need an internet connection to this player so that it can download the latest drivers to play DVDs, if it can't update then you won't be able to play some DVDs.

I bought the BDP-S370 to replace an older, but very thin, Sony 1080P DVD player. The following features were critical priorities: maximum ease of use/interoperability with existing Sony audio/HDTV system, FAST BD movie startup (I'm tired of waiting 1-2 minutes before movies start - as is the case with my older LG Blu-Ray / HD DVD combo player), and unit must be less than 1.5" tall to fit in the small space previously occupied by the DVD player. THE GOOD: The Sony BDP-S370 delivered on movie speed: disk drawer opens within two seconds of pressing (with machine off) the Open/Close button - amazing! After inserting disk and pressing Play the Blu-Ray movie title screen was displayed in less than 45 seconds total from power on. Player is also very thin and light and does not get too hot in operation. THE BAD: Here are the problems that led me to return the unit for refund within 1 week: 1) Bravia Syncâ„¢ feature using all high-quality HDMI cables started up my Sony brand Audio system, changed it to correct video input, and powered on my Sony Bravia 40" HDTV (Great!). UNFORTUNATELY, 50% of the time I get a "unsupported signal" message on my TV after starting a BD movie, and the movie refuses to play until I open the disk drawer and restart the movie, turn player on and off or other annoying gymnastics. 2) The player would not play (not even the Title menu screen) of the original Starship Troopers Blu-ray movie, which plays without issue on two other Blu-ray machines I own. This was the first Blu-Ray movie I tried - so, not a great first impression. I finally solved this problem by researching issue on Internet and discovered that newer Sony players require a USB memory stick to be inserted into rear USB port before this particular movie will play. 3) More disappointing was the failure of the BDP-S370 to display the main title menu screen for the recently-released disaster movie 2012 - the menu screen was totally corrupted with wavy interference patterns covering the entire screen; yet my two-year old LG Blu-Ray / HD DVD player displays the title menu screen for this movie perfectly and I haven't updated the LG player's software in over a year. In my opinion, a brand new Sony BD player built in 2010 SHOULD play this movie without problems - but that was not the case. 4) The operating buttons on the player itself cannot be seen if the player is at eye-level height (or higher) and the buttons are entirely too tiny; so you must use the remote for all operations. 5) If you rewind a Blu-ray movie in progress (e.g., the Blu-ray movie 2012), a "timeline" type information bar shows up at the bottom of the screen that refuses to go away. I can find nothing in the manual that indicates how to turn off this now continuously-displayed progress bar at the bottom 20% of the screen. It doesn't "time-out", even after 10 minutes. Pressing "DISPLAY" on the remote toggles other information displays on and off, but it does not clear this timeline progress bar. Similarly, the Menu & Play buttons also do not turn off the timeline display and there is no "Exit" button on the remote. 6) Finally - While playing a movie, if you make the HUGE mistake of bringing up the menu and selecting "Information" and your Sony player is NOT connected to the Internet, the movie stops, an error message pops up regarding "Gracenote service not available" and you have to restart the movie, including the 30-second Blu-ray movie startup delay. I understand the reason for the error message, but not why the movie has to be aborted and restarted. Overall - too many bugs - too much inconvenience. Thus, I returned unit without hesitation and will seek another unit that "just works".

Comments about Sony BDP-S570 Network Media Player:
After the first few weeks of owning this product, I was hesitant. I considered bringing it back because it was constantly rebuffering. After waiting it out, a few weeks later, it worked awesome yet again! The other day, I turned it on and netflix had been totally changed! Love it now! Much better! It picks up my wireless great and pulls info from my pc. Love slacker radio! I have had NO real problems with it! I bought it on sale for $159 at Best Buy on sale! I do not have antenna tv or cable and only use my bluray. I use hulu plus, netflix and slacker the most. Love the slideshow for pics too! I would definitely recommend to anyone!!

I see others say it has unacceptable internet speed, but this may be because of their router or smoething on their side. I stream straight from my pc and use an external hd also no problems, EVER!!!! 3D works amazing and is saving my PS3 from to much use!!! Love Sony Bravia everything!! Nothing better than it!! Sony should be paying me to rep them but their not, unfortunate 4 me!!!

Sony Blu-ray Player BDP-S470 Using USB HDD, format
By gplacek
from Athens, GA
Comments about Sony BDP-S570 Network Media Player:
This is info for setting up and using the Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray Disc Player to use a USB hard drive to play your music and video collection. My system is a Gateway NV Laptop running Windows7. Some or all of this will work for other operating systems as well. First off, where are your video and audio files stored now? Are they on the HD with your OS? Are they on an external drive? How is that drive formatted? Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray Disc Player will ONLY read files from a FAT32 formatted USB hard drive. (or from a CD or DVD, Blu-ray USB stick etc..)(but this is about HD's, so i'm not going into that.) If you already have an external drive you wish to use for your BDP that's fine, however, if it is not formatted to FAT32 you will need to move all the data off of it before you format. Formatting WILL DESTROY ALL DATA ON THE DISK!!!! So you might just want to go out and purchase a new one. $100 will get you about 500GB of space. Windows alone will not be able to format the drive correctly. You will need a seperate program to do this. I use guiformat.exe. This is a free download. guiformat.exe - When you buy a new drive it will most likley be formatted to NTFS. If this is the case you are ready to use guiformat.exe to reformat the drive to FAT32. Windows will not format FAT32 over 30GB. Windows will format larger than this to NTFS and too FATex. FATex will NOT work with your BDP. Run guiformat.exe on the NTFS formatted drive to reformat to FAT32. The only thing that guiformat will do is format drives to FAT32. Running guiformat.exe will format the drive. This will DESTROY ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE THAT YOU SELECT. Once this is done, you're almost done. Copy over .MP3 files and .MP4 video files. For a complete list of file types that are supported on your BDP look on page 32 of the BDP-S470 manual. Some video formats supported are .mpg, .mpeg, .m2ts, .mp4, .divx (.avi does not always work!!!) .wmv, and .asf Some audio formats supported are .mp3, .m4a, .wma, .wav Also .jpg and .jpeg are supported. That being said, you can use itunes to convert files to .mp3 from most other audio formats. On request I can give more info on this topic. As for video files, I use the .mp4 format. For converting large numbers of video files to .mp4 I use "HandBrake-0.9.5-Win_GUI.exe" That should do it for now. Please let me know if this was helpful or if other info is needed. I will try to answer any questions. Happy BDP USB HDD Playing! :-) Cheers, Greg

Comments about Sony BDP-S570 Network Media Player:
After reading some of the negative reviews posted here I think the BDP-BX57/BDP S-570 player is getting a bad rap. A bought this BD player a few days ago at a local Sam's Club. Setup was very simple, despite the fact that I attached it to an an older Phillips CRT TV that does not have HDMI. WiFi setup took only a couple of minutes and Netflix streaming is excellent. I think some of the problems with streaming some people have relates to deficiencies in their WiFi setup and not in the player itself and before they give up they should check their wireless router and if it's not 802.11N they should upgrade. Also, router positioning is crucial. The only time I couldn't initiate Netflix streaming was when my ISP was doing maintenance on their network and it was running slowly. Regular DVDs look very good but I haven't played any Blu-Ray discs yet (not much point with my old TV). If any flaws develop with further use I will repost.

I have had my unit for about a month now. I replaced a Insignia NS-WBRDVD2 Blu-ray Disc Player from Best Buy had to much trouble with that unit. All went really smooth setup was easy and Netfiix came right up and ran fast. the only thing I did not like over the Insignia unit is that you can't browse Netflix available downloadable movies you can only see what is in your queue. It also plays all of my audio cd's flawlessly even my jukebox formats. Other than the Netflix flaw it is great addition to my other Sony hardware. Maybe Sony can upgrade there Netflix software to add the browsing capability.

I can stream videos from the internet in high-def with no problem at all. I can stream video, music and photos from my PC no problem. This device does all it says it will and it does a sweet job of up-sampling DVD. It connects quickly to my LAN and it never hiccups or loses the connection but then again I know what I'm doing.
