I bought the MF5880DN because (A) it was priced right here on PCRush (B) supported scan directly to PDF (C) did everything else under the sun I could think of.

I had a terrible time finding reviews so I figured that might be true for it's little brother the 5850. So I wrote this review, I'm pretty sure it's the same printer with a slightly reduced feature set...

I just wanted to tell people, it's a great printer, it faxes just fine, and for all other practical purposes I hate it. The menu system is unbelievably confusing. I still fumble around after 3months hoping I push the right button combinations to make scans (scanning was a big deal for me.) When I use it as a copier, I get angry almost every time because if it has gone into "energy saving" mode (which is indicated by a small green button on the upper right) then it will not respond to any buttons (Like "COPY") until you press the "energy saving" button to wake the thing up. So you walk up, think "I want to copy this" and press the big "copy" button -- and the machine does nothing. Gotta push the enegry saving button first.

If you want to buy a slightly used 5880DN, let me know. I really hate mine. (But it does work fine though. Well, except the software. For whatever reason, it seems to be non-existant or non-functioning on my Win7 PC. I still haven't figured that one out.)

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
