During the Prepare phase, Nextierra performs a discovery process to understand your business needs, high-level requirements, and challenges. This effort includes a series of interviews with supporting staff to develop and propose a viable solution, balance competing needs, and understand your business and technical environment. Other significant efforts at this stage include developing a customer requirements document as well as high-level design documentation. A survey tool used in the Prepare stage will help organize and report findings. It also helps Nextierra more systematically share findings with you and with other organizations that will help manage, design, and deploy your solutions.

During the Plan phase, Nextierra refines the preliminary strategy developed during the Prepare phase to establish high-level requirements and functionality needed for use test and validation testing-but not yet for specific tests. To add detail, Nextierra verifies the customer requirements document, conducts planning workshops, and administers more detailed surveys. Verification of the customer requirements document is recorded with a formal CRD Response Document (CRDR). Depending on the details of the engagement, other deliverable might include a Site Requirements Specifications (SRS), or a Fault Management Test Plan (FMTP). The final deliverable of this phase, a high-level STP, documents the testing teams and their responsibilities, testing tasks, types of tests, and a schedule or process for test execution. It provides the detail that supporting staff need to properly schedule and staff for testing.

In the Design phase, the project team develops and presents the low-level design that they will eventually implement. At this time, the team decides how to meet requirements for the applications, support, backup, and recovery.

In the Implement phase, customers are concerned with introducing the solutions into the network and their business processes.

In the Operate phase, commonly known as "Day 2," the program starts the transition to an operational function. The Nextierra team stabilizes system operational issues and closes out the status of all deliverables, documentation, training, and remaining deployments. The project manager begins closing the program and initiates support services where applicable.

At this stage, the program is completed. However, Nextierra continues to work with you to identify and establish priorities system improvements. Optimization services include all post-program services that are not part of existing program, and exclude activities included in remote or onsite maintenance contracts. Examples include performance audits, major software and hardware upgrades, and applications development. This phase typically leads to another program activity-when the PPDIOO process begins again.
